Search for missing gyrocopter pilot who took off in Mbombela

A pilot who took off in his gyrocopter from Nelspruit Airport has not been seen since Tuesday.

The Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC) has officially launched a search and rescue operation to locate missing pilot Gerhard Minnaar.

Minnaar was last seen at the Nelspruit Airport around 08:30 on Tuesday when he took off in his gyrocopter.

He was heading in the direction of Musina, and his last visible location was Louis Trichardt.

The ARCC’s operations chief Gregory Critchley says they are working with the SAPS Airwing, SARZA (local pilots) and local ground assistance.
