Search for missing Langebaan hiker enters 2nd week

Anyone with information about a hiker who went missing on a Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve trail is urged to contact the police.

The search continues for Langebaan hiker Hermie van Zyl (74), who went missing on the Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail near Storms River a week ago.

Knysna-Plett Herald reports that SAPS Eastern Cape spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said today that there is ‘no new development’.

A family member in Langebaan confirmed that there had been no further news.

Van Zyl was reported missing on Wednesday, October 22.

He was separated from his hiking group along the MTO Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve trail that afternoon, in the direction of the Heuningbos hut to Sleepkloof hut.

He was last seen wearing denim shorts and a khaki short-sleeve button-down shirt.

The search is being conducted by the SAPS Search and Rescue, SAPS Mounted Unit, South African National Parks rangers and personnel from the MTO Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail.

A SAPS helicopter also joined the search for two days. About 30 people are involved in the search.

Nkohli requested anyone with information to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Jansen, on 079 602 4058.
