Second estate agent arrested for fraud in Middelburg

Helga Kruger (51) has become the third accused in an alleged RDP Housing Fraud case in Middelburg that has seen the arrest of well-known Middelburg security company owner Fofo Fotoboy Makua (55) and former estate agent Annica van Staden (46) by the Hawks’ serious commercial crime investigation unit.
In a press release, Hawks spokesperson Captain Lucy Sekgotodi says Kruger is suspected of being involved with housing fraud worth R100 000.

It is alleged that Kruger advertised RDP houses in Tokologo, Middelburg on behalf of Housing First Properties. The offer to purchase indicate that Housing First was the seller of the property on behalf of Annica van Staden who was registered as the owner.
The house was sold for R100 000 and the buyer allegedly paid the money in to the account of Foto Security Services who belongs to Makua.

“Kruger should have known as an ‘estate agent’ that the property can only be transferred and registered in the name of the buyer once the conveyor attorney received the money in his trust account.
“The rightful owner of the property did not give anyone permission or a mandate to sell the property,” says Sekgotodi.
Kruger appeared in the Middelburg Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday and the case was postponed until next week Wednesday for the appointment of a legal representative. She remains in custody until then.
