Second suspect arrested for Polokwane Deacon murders; duo in court on Tuesday

The first suspect was arrested in Mookgophong in the early hours today.

The police have confirmed that a second suspect was arrested in Polokwane at 08:00 today for the murder of Lizette Deacon and her mother, Hettie.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba welcomed the arrest of the two men, aged 30 and 35, following the brutal murder in a Welgelegen townhouse complex on Thursday.

Both suspects were arrested by a high-level team of investigators led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Crime Detection, Major General Samuel Manala. The team was assembled soon after these murders.

The deceased, Lizette Deacon and her mother Hettie Deacon were attacked and stabbed by the suspects in their house. They were later tied up and put in the back of their vehicle. The vehicle was found abandoned next to the R37 road between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo.

The suspects will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 15 September facing charges of murder and house robbery.

The 35-year-old suspect will also face a charge under the Immigration Act as he is in the country illegally, the police confirmed.

The team has already identified other suspects and the search operation is continuing. More arrests are expected.
