A man believed to be in his 30s was shot in the chest and had to be airlifted to hospital.

A security guard is in critical condition after he was shot in the chest during a robbery in the early hours of this morning.

“The patient is in his 30s and is a security guard at City Logistics warehouse where he was shot in the chest by alleged robbers,” says emergency services Cert-SA spokesperson Ruan Heyns.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, paramedics responded to reports of a shooting in the early hours.

“On arrival on scene a male security officer was found in a critical condition,” Van Reenen says. “He was treated and stabilised by Emer-G-Med paramedics.”

With the assistance of Cert-SA medics, a landing zone was established and the security guard was airlifted to hospital by a Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter. Van Reenen says he was taken to a specialist facility.
