Several injuries as early morning blaze destroys shacks in north

“Disaster management has been activated to co-ordinate relief for those affected.”

At least 10 shacks were burned down by an early Sunday morning blaze at an informal settlement in the north of Pretoria.

Tshwane emergency services department spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the blaze broke out on Plot 111 along Sakabuka Road in the Moloto area.

“The call was received just after 00:00 this morning, and emergency services arrived on the scene to find multiple shacks on fire,” he said.

Four patients were said to have subsequently been transported to the Mamelodi hospital due to the injuries they sustained. One patient sustained moderate injuries while the other three sustained minor injuries.

“Disaster management has been activated to co-ordinate relief for those affected,” Mabaso said.
