Skeletal remains found in Brackenhurst

The remains were found in an open veld on Blesbok Street in Brackenhurst.

On Routine patrol, this morning June 5, React 24 Security’s officer came across skeletal remains laying in an open veld.

According to WO Gerhard Cornelius, communications liaison for Brackendowns SAPS, the remains consist of rib, spinal, shin and pelvic bones.

Cornelius said the scene was searched but no skull was found.

At this stage, it is uncertain to determine whether the remains are human or not.

An inquest docket is opened at the Brackendowns SAPS and remains will be sent for forensic tests.

It’s unclear how long the remains have been there, but long enough for decomposition to take over, leaving investigators with a lot to figure out.
