Stage 2 load-shedding on the cards until Wednesday

Eskom’s power cut forecast is better than expected, with a lower-than-predicted stage of load-shedding.

Eskom says while its generation capacity improves, load-shedding will continue at stage 2 until 16:00 on Wednesday.

The power utility reduced power cuts from stage 3 to stage 2 at noon.

“Eskom power station general managers and their teams’ efforts in returning units to service over the past weekend resulted in the improvement in generation capacity. This, combined with the slightly lower-than-anticipated electricity demand, allowed load-shedding to be suspended at 21:35 on Sunday night until 05:00 on Monday,” spokesperson Daphne Mokwena explains.

She adds that another update will be provided on Wednesday afternoon.

“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes should it be required. Unplanned outages are currently at 13 449MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 8 383MW,” Mokwena explains and thanks those who ‘heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently’.
