Stolen copper cables worth R250K recovered in KZN
Three men were arrested after being found in possession of four sealed wooden drums of copper cable belonging to a municipality.
Three men accused of being in possession of stolen copper cables worth about R250 000 were arrested at a house in Montclair in KZN on Saturday.
The suspected thieves include the homeowner and two foreign nationals, aged between 23 and 51.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo says the men were arrested during a joint operation between Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation, police units and eThekwini Municipality officials.
“Police received information about stolen copper cables that were being kept in one of the houses in Montclair. A joint operation was swiftly conducted, and members proceeded to the house.
“Upon arrival, four sealed wooden drums of eThekwini Municipality copper cables and 11 carrying cables, to the street value of about R250 000, were found,” he says.
The men were expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
