Stormers without Libbok for Champs Cup clash

London Irish' Ben Loader received a red card after a head-on-head clash with Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok.

John Dobson confirmed that the DHL Stormers will be without Manie Libbok for at least one week after the playmaker was concussed in the bonus-point victory over London Irish yesterday.

Libbok was on the wrong end of a head-on-head clash in the first half with Ben Loader, that earned London Irish the first of two red cards in the match.

The Springbok playmaker was substituted for a head impact assessment (Hia) in the 17th minute and didn’t return. As a result, youngster Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu played at No 10 for the rest of the match.

“Manie got a knock to his head and failed his Hia,” said Dobson. “A joke was that he failed on the ‘language test’. But, it’s a concussion and he’ll have to go through the whole protocol now.”

Dobson is confident the Stormers have enough depth to sustain the blow of losing Libbok for at least one week, while he goes through the concussion protocol.

The Stormers will host French outfit Clermont in Cape Town on Saturday night and need just one point from the match to seal their place in the Champions Cup playoffs.

“We’ve got options at 10. We had trained Sacha at 15 and 12 for this game, so it was probably a mistake to put him straight on at 10 on my part,” said Dobson.

“But obviously Sacha is an option at 10, so is Damian Willemse, as are Jean-Luc du Plessis and Kade Wolhuter. We’ll be fine there.”
