The Department of Education has put strict measures in place to prevent any irregularities this exam season, with papers delivered to centres on time – even in the event of a storm.

This was revealed by KZN Education MEC Mbali Frazer during the exam pledge signing ceremony at the Little Flower Combined School on the south coast last Friday.

Frazer said teachers have played their part in getting pupils ready from the foundation phase.

“They have taught and capacitated our learners in everything they needed to know to prepare for this moment.

“We appeal for their patience as they prepare the Class of 2022 for their final assessments before they exit the schooling system,” she said.

Frazer said this was also a stressful time for parents and pupils.

“With the mounting pressure, there might be a temptation to do something you think is going to help you but could end up ruining your life.

“Cheating in any exam has consequences, but these are even more severe at Grade 12 level. If found guilty, you could be disbarred from writing matric exams for up to two years or be made to rewrite all the papers, which could be even more stressful for you.

“My appeal is to not bring any unauthorised material such as crib notes into examination centres.

“I also urge you not to turn a blind eye to any form of dishonest conduct, but report this to the invigilators or school principal.”
