Suspect arrested for homeless man’s murder

A man was arrested on Monday morning after a man believed to be homeless was found murdered in the Eastleigh area of Edenvale, on the East Rand.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Robbie Roberts said it is believed the two men were involved in a fight on Sunday night, which led to the homeless man being stabbed to death, Bedfordview Edenvale News reported.

According to Roberts, the man succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

“We urge residents to report fights on the street to the SAPS by contacting the relevant sector police vehicles,” Roberts said.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

In July last year, a homeless man was found brutally murdered in a dustbin on the East Rand.

The man was reportedly found in the bin at the Sebenza informal settlement in Edenvale with his legs cut off. He was also burnt beyond recognition.

According to police, the man died during a fight involving three other people, one of whom was later hospitalised.

Gauteng police later carried out further investigations to try and identify the murdered man. No arrests were reported.
