Suspension of load-shedding short-lived due to loss of generating units

Eskom has made its latest load-shedding schedule available, after load-shedding was suspended until 16:00 today.

Eskom says load-shedding will be reinstated this afternoon, due to the need to replenish emergency reserves in preparation for the week.

Three generating units were also lost over the last 24 hours, says Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.

Thus, stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 today until 20:00 tonight. Thereafter, stage 3 will kick in until 05:00 tomorrow.

Here is the schedule for the next few days:

“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and provide an update on Sunday afternoon,” says Mokwena.

Unplanned outages account for 15 409MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 6 261MW.

“Eskom power station general managers and their teams are working diligently to ensure that additional generating capacity is recovered by bringing units on unplanned outages and planned maintenance back to service as soon as possible. A total of 3 570MW of generating capacity is anticipated to return to service by Monday,” says Mokwena.
