The provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has established a team of investigators to probe the brutal muder of Sphiwe Patrick Zondo (43).

Zondo, a teacher at the Waterberg TVET College, was killed during a mob attack in the Mamaolo village under the Lebowakgomo policing area on June 2.

Zondo, who originates from KwaZulu-Natal, resided in Lebowakgomo A and was driving his vehicle in possession of an unknown number of goats when he was stopped by a mob.

He was dragged from the vehicle, severely assaulted and burned beyond recognition. His motor vehicle was also torched.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said preliminary police investigations revealed that Zondo often bought goats from surrounding villages and would take them home to KZN.

Hadebe has ordered the team to hunt down all perpertrators involved and “bring them to book.”

“Incidents of people taking the law into their own hands are increasing and the police will deal with them as a matter of priority. Anyone found to be on the wrong side of the law will face serious consequences,” she said.
