Taxi driver killed in fight over school transport in eMalahleni

An eyewitness intervened but one of the men fetched a knife from his taxi.

A taxi driver was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon in Reyno Ridge, eMalahleni after he was involved in a fight, allegedly with another taxi driver, over school transport.

Witbank Police spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall, says the incident happened at 14:00 in Hoopoo Street. Two taxi drivers stopped next to the road where an argument ensued about transporting school children.

A witness on the scenes said that he intervened, and both drivers walked back to their vehicles.

According to him, one of the drivers took a knife from his taxi, ran back to the victim and stabbed him twice in the neck and once in the back. He then fled from the scene in his taxi.

The witness called emergency medical services and tried to stop the bleeding from the victim’s neck. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries before paramedics arrived.

Hall says police are requesting the community to contact the investigating officer, Colonel One Thobejane on 082 372 2195 or the crime stop number on 08600 10111 if they can assist with more information.
