Teens killed in suspected gang-related shooting in Elsies River

Western Cape police are appealing to the Leonsdale community to come forward with information following a deadly shooting.

A shooting, believed to be gang-related, claimed the lives of two teenagers and left a 12-year-old girl and a woman injured.

The incident occurred at the corner of Bourne Road and Kriebos Link in Leonsdale, Elsies River, at 19:42 yesterday.

Captain FC Van Wyk, the spokesperson for the Western Cape police, says when officers arrived at the scene, they found two young men, aged 16 and 19, with gunshot wounds.

“Medical personnel were already attending to them. Both were declared dead at the scene due to injuries sustained,” he adds.

The community also alerted police to a girl and a 63-year-old woman who were injured during the incident.

“The girl sustained gunshot wounds to the hip and thigh, and the woman was shot in the stomach. They were taken to a medical facility for treatment,” says Van Wyk.

He adds that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have yet been made.

“The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related,” says Van Wyk.

Elsies River police are investigating two counts of murder and two of attempted murder.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile app anonymously.
