Tense situation in Soweto as hostage drama plays out
The hostage situation has reportedly been unfolding since early on Wednesday morning.
Negotiations are under way ins Soweto as a man, 37, holds his girlfriend hostage and demands that police withdraw a case of malicious damage to property against him.
News24 reports that negotiations began on Wednesday morning and residents had said they heard gunshots.
It was further reported that the man had said he would shoot both himself and his girlfriend if police did not meet his demands. Apparently he was speaking to police through a locked burglar door.
EWN further reported that the couple were believed to have been involved in an argument.
