Three arrested for burglary

Three Soweto men have been arrested at the gate of a Van Riebeeck Park house in Kempton Park, Gauteng, after trying to gain access to the property.

Norkem Park police spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme said police officers were patrolling around Van Riebeeck Park when they received a complaint shortly before 1pm on Tuesday that there were suspicious people at the gate of a house on Pomelo Street, Kempton Express reported.

It was alleged the suspects had broken the main gate lock when police arrived at the scene.

Upon further investigation, police found the suspects in possession of housebreaking tools – a pick and pair of pliers – said Molokomme.

The owner of the house had left his property at about 10.30am. He later received a call from his neighbour informing him of the break-in attempt, added Molokomme.

“A blue Toyota Tazz was also recovered at the scene. Police impounded the vehicle for further investigation to determine if it could be linked to other crimes,” said Molokomme.

The suspects, aged 22 and 35, will face charges of possession of housebreaking implements and malicious damage to property.

In a separate incident, two men were arrested for allegedly breaking into a business in Johannesburg last month.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the two men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested after they were allegedly found hiding in a shop on the corner of Small and Albertina Sisulu streets in central Johannesburg.
