An accident on the N2 southbound just past Ballito has claimed the lives of three people this morning.
Responding to the scene, Medi Response medics reported one of the cars had burst into flames after the collision, with the second car coming to rest on its side on a steep embankment.
KwaDukuza firefighters worked alongside medics to free two trapped passengers from the car which had landed on its side.
One of the passengers had already been declared dead at the scene, while the other died shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.
Two people in the car which burst into flames managed to escape, but after the flames were extinguished by firefighters another body was found inside.
The exact cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.
