Toddler (2) drowns in Durban pool

Despite numerous attempts to resuscitate a toddler, who was found floating in a pool in Durban, the child unfortunately passed away.

Tragedy struck as a two-year-old boy drowned in a residential pool in The Bluff, Durban, yesterday evening.

The child was declared dead shortly after admission to hospital, despite all resuscitation efforts from paramedics and hospital staff, Southlands Sun reported.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said paramedics were notified of the incident shortly after 19:30.

When paramedics arrived, they were met by a vehicle about to rush the unresponsive toddler to the hospital. Paramedics immediately jumped in to help and initiated advanced resuscitation efforts on-scene.

“The toddler was apparently found floating in a residential pool. Neighbours assisted in pulling him out of the water but he showed no signs of life,” said Jamieson.

ALS Paramedics took the child to a nearby hospital where attempts at resuscitation were continued. Unfortunately, all efforts by paramedics and medical personnel could not save him.

The exact circumstances surrounding the drowning incident are not known yet. Members of the Brighton Beach Police Station were at the scene and are investigating.

This is the third drowning incident in the Durban area in the past week and second incident of this nature to take place in a pool.
