Tracking device tells true story of biker’s ‘hijacking’

A 29-year-old Kempton Park West man had been charged with perjury after providing a false statement under oath about being hijacked on April 25.

The man said he was driving a blue Yamata motorbike along De Havilland Avenue in Impark Park, delivering newspapers, when he was hijacked.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, the man told the police he was approached by two men brandishing sticks when he stopped at a stop sign.

“He alleged one of the men pushed him off the motorbike. He then saw a third suspect with a firearm. He claimed he was blindfolded with a T-shirt and loaded into a van,” Ramaube said.

The man said he was dropped off in Kempton Park West while his hijackers made off with the motorbike, worth around R120 000.

Ramaube said the suspect went to Boksburg North SAPS to open a case.

“Investigations found the motorbike had a tracking system which showed it was last seen at a residential address in Kempton Park West on the same day he claimed to have been hijacked,” he said.

“Further investigations revealed that the address was where the man lived.

“The police also found a photo of his daughter posing next to the ‘hijacked’ motorbike on his cellphone, dated April 26 and taken at 8.26am,” Ramaube said.

The man was arrested on April 30 and charged with perjury as he failed to give a satisfactory explanation in relation to what investigations revealed.
