A late-night robbery at a Mount Edgecombe business turned violent when suspects shot a truck driver through his window before fleeing with stolen goods.
A truck driver is lucky to have escaped serious injury after he was shot during an armed robbery at a business premises on Siphosethu Road in the Mount Edgecombe area in KZN.
Northglen News reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, just after 23:40.
KZN VIP Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Naidoo says during the incident, another suspect had allegedly stolen items from the business.
“KZN VIP officers located SAPS vehicles inside the Sugarmill grounds and made contact with the complainant, who stated that he had been sleeping inside his company vehicle when he heard someone knocking on the door. When he asked who it was, one of the suspects allegedly claimed they had come to work. The driver refused to open, prompting the suspect to break the driver’s side window.
“The suspect then shot the driver [in] the right shoulder before fleeing the scene. During the incident, another suspect reportedly tied up the on-site security guard with his shoelaces, stole an undisclosed amount of valuables and escaped,” he says.
The injured driver was treated on scene before being transported to a hospital.
