Truck driver shot in armed robbery

The suspect fired a single shot at the driver after breaking a side window on the truck.

A TRUCK driver is lucky to have escaped serious injury after he was shot during an armed robbery at a business premises on Siphosethu Road in the Mount Edgecombe area.

The incident occurred on Saturday  (October 11) just after 23:40.

KZN VIP Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said during the incident another suspect had stolen items from the business.

“KZNVIP officers located SAPS vehicles inside the Sugarmill grounds and made contact with the complainant, who stated that he had been sleeping inside his company vehicle when he heard someone knocking on the door. When he asked who it was, one of the suspects allegedly claimed they had come to work. The driver refused to open, prompting the suspect to break the driver’s side window.

“The suspect then shot the driver on the right shoulder before fleeing the scene. During the incident, another suspect reportedly tied up the on-site security guard with his shoelaces, stole an undisclosed amount of valuables and escaped,” he said.

The injured driver was treated on scene before being transported to a hospital.
