Two men arrested for drug possession
Two suspects have been arrested and charged for illegal possession of dagga and cultivation of dagga plants at a residential home in Wavecrest, King William’s Town, in the Eastern Cape.
Police received a tip-off and obtained a search warrant for the premises where they made the discovery that resulted in the arrest of the two unidentified suspects on Monday.
Almost 1kg of loose dagga was found stashed inside a fridge, and several plants and the equipment used to cultivate the plants were seized on the premises, said police.
The value of the dagga and the equipment was estimated at approximately R20 000.
Both suspects will appear in the Humansdorp Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Last month, a 25-year-old man was arrested after drugs worth a street value of R15 000 were found in his flat in Birch Acres, Kempton Park, in Gauteng last month.
Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said: “Officers swooped on the suspect’s flat on Bontelsie Street at 8am, where they came across 100 ziplock bags containing the drug, cat. They also found a small amount of dagga.”
The owner of the flat was arrested, and he was charged with possession of drugs and dealing in illegal substances.
