Two men fatally shot after intervening in GBV assault in KZN

A family is seeking justice and answers after their relative was killed while trying to help a woman who was being assaulted in eSkihaleni.

Three men attempting to save a woman from a gender-based violence attack in Port Durnford were shot on Wednesday evening, reports the Zululand Observer.

One of the men died at the scene, while the second died in hospital on Thursday.

The third victim is in critical condition, fighting for his life in hospital.

A suspect was arrested yesterday.

Kwazikwenkosi Dlamini, a ward councillor, described the incident as a tragedy, saying the men were good, hardworking community members who were against crime.

“[One of them] was a ward committee member serving his community. He was committed to his community work and against all forms of criminality in our area. We condemn this incident and we believe the perpetrators will be traced and brought to book,” he said.

Echoing these sentiments, the brother of one of the deceased said the loss would be felt by the entire Ward 18 community, as his brother was a selfless and respectful resident.

“We have lost greatly. All we want now is justice and answers as to why our brothers had to lose their lives in such a manner. There is nothing we can do now; this matter is in the hands of law enforcement,” he said.

eSikhaleni SAPS has registered two murder cases and one attempted murder case.
