Ward Councillor Kwazikwenkosi Dlamini described the incident as a tragedy, saying the men were good, hardworking community members who were against crime.

“[One of them] was a ward committee member serving his community. He was committed to his community work and was against all forms of criminality in our area. We condemn this incident, and we believe the perpetrators will be traced and brought to book,” he said.

Echoing these sentiments, the brother of one of the deceased said the loss will be greatly felt by the entire Ward 18 community as he was a selfless, respectful resident.

“We have lost greatly. All we want now is justice and answers to why our brothers had to lose their lives in such a manner. There is nothing we can do now, this matter is in the hands of law enforcement,” he said.

eSikhaleni SAPS registered two murder cases and one of attempted murder. One suspect was arrested on Friday.
