Two motorists shot dead during an alleged zama zama attack in East Rand

The victims were reportedly a female (early 20s) and male (19).

Benoni SAPS Capt Nomsa Sekele has confirmed two motorists were the victims of a fatal shooting at around midday on Sunday, Benoni City Times reports.

“Four motorists were travelling from Delmas when their bakkie ran low on fuel,” explained Sekele.

“The victims, with two of their workers in the bakkie, took the Putfontein off-ramp due to the fuel shortage.

“The motorists exited the vehicle while waiting for assistance. The victims were sitting on the barrier on the side of the road and the workers were standing nearby waiting.

“Three armed suspects then approached the victims and opened fire. When the workers heard the gunshots they ran away.”

Two cases of murder have been opened at the Benoni SAPS.
