Tyre spiking: Middelburg woman targeted in attack on N4
Another incident of tyre spiking was reported last night, with the victim fortunately making her way back to the Mpumalanga town.
An unidentified woman from Middelburg was the victim of a spike gang attack last night.
The incident took place between the Bethal and Van Dyksdrift off-ramps on the N4.
Fortunately, she made her way back to Middelburg safely. Once she arrived in town, the woman proceeded to repair her car’s tyre at the Engen Garage at the Middelburg Mall.
The Middelburg Observer spoke to Michael Motau, an employee at the filling station, who assisted the the woman.
Motau said the woman was visibly shaken by the incident and that her tyre was clearly spiked, as it had a large gaping hole.
He then stated she was greeted at the filling station by a man Motau presumes to be her husband.
After the repairs were complete, the woman made her way home.
The Traffic Alert WhatsApp group did alert highway patrol units of the incident, with the patrol sending officers to monitor the road.
This attempted attack follows a number of concerning spike gang related incidents, which includes a wounded woman firing shots to protect her family, and a man being stabbed to death.
