‘Uncooperative’ victim shot dead by robbers
A man has been shot and killed after he allegedly refused to cooperate with the suspects during a robbery in Krugersdorp, on the West Rand.
It is alleged four staff members of the Banjaara Restaurant in Key West Shopping Centre were walking home on Cecil Knight Street in Rant-en-Dal when they were approached by the robbers in a suspicious vehicle on Sunday night, Krugersdorp News reported.
According to the spokesperson of Sector 3’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) Lourens Maritz, a maroon VW Polo with an Eastern Cape registration was parked on Hugo Street with its hazards on.
“Two suspects then climbed out of the vehicle and fired a warning shot, ordering the victims to put their hands in the air and hand over their belongings. After the shot was fired one of the staff members got a fright and tried to flee the scene. One of the two suspects chased after him, hitting him on the head with his gun. A struggle ensued, resulting in the suspect shooting the man,” added Maritz.
Netcare 911 was called to the scene where the gunshot victim, believed to have been a waiter at the restaurant, was pronounced dead.
In a separate incident, police in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, positively linked a suspect to the murder of a man killed during an armed robbery that was caught on CCTV footage inside the Eastdene liquor store.
Mukesh Ranchod, who worked at Heavy Feather, was shot and killed at point blank range earlier this month at the liquor outlet where his wife Darshala worked.
In the video, the armed suspects are seen ordering the victims to the back of the store. As the victims are walking, Ranchod is seen standing in between the shelves, where the suspect shoots him in the upper body, after which Ranchod falls down. He died on the scene.
