Update: Body of missing Durban boy (7) recovered

A young boy’s body was found after extensive search efforts by Reaction Unit South Africa.

The body of seven-year-old Sqalo Phumelela Ntlooa was found in a fast-flowing river in Cato Manor in Durban after extensive search efforts to locate him today.

The Witness reports that Sqalo went missing yesterday after not returning from a hunt with three friends and several dogs in the Cato Manor forest.

In a statement, Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson Prem Balram said the R44 helicopter conducted an extensive three-and-a-half-hour search for the missing boy from 10:00 this morning.

His clothing, a blue T-shirt and orange pants, was discovered on the riverbank near the Albert Luthuli Hospital.

The pilot and crew searched along the river and identified a pool where he could have drowned, says Balram.

“His body was located shortly after at the bottom of the plunge pool and removed by a community member,” he adds.
