Update: Elderly man strangled to death

An elderly man was killed during a housebreaking in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, this morning.

The man and his wife, together with their domestic worker, were brutally attacked in their home after three young men allegedly entered the premises, Ladysmith Gazette reported.

The husband was strangled to death in the passageway, with his mouth and neck bound with socks.

It is believed the intruders tied up the elderly woman and domestic worker and left them in a room.

The robbers then ransacked the house, taking electrical appliances and other valuables, before fleeing on foot.

Neighbours were alerted by the wife’s cries for help. They then went to investigate and found the two women tied up.

The husband was declared dead on the scene when police and emergency services arrived.

Police are conducting a manhunt for the three suspects.
