UPDATE: Identities of N4 accident victims released

The identities of the three tourists from the Netherlands who had died in the Schoemanskloof accident, have been revealed.

The names of the deceased who had died in an accident on the N4 Schoemanskloof between Poplar Creek and Montrose near Mbombela yesterday have been revealed.

Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, said the police were still investigating what caused the accident, but the surviving driver might face five counts of culpable homicide.

The driver of the white bakkie was Jonny O’Niel.

The deceased tourists were Anthony, Elizabeth and Sanne de Bruijne.

The driver of the minibus was Sabelo Dukuka.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency’s (MTPA) CEO, Johannes Nobunga, conveyed a heartfelt message of commiseration to the families of the three tourists from the Netherlands. “We are deeply saddened by this incident and wish to convey our sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased,” he said.

“We have activated our tourism victim support programme to provide the necessary support. We will continue to work with the SAPS officials as they investigate the cause of the incident. We will further work with other relevant departments to ensure that the families of the deceased receive the necessary support.”
