uShaka Marine World reopens after month-long strike

Holidaymakers heading to Durban for Easter can look forward to visiting Africa’s largest aquarium as the workers’ strike has ended.

Durban’s tourism destination and much-loved aquarium uShaka Marine World has reopened after being closed for more than a month due to a labour dispute strike.

According to uShaka, the strike was officially suspended yesterday.

“We welcome the settlement of the wage dispute between uShaka Marine World and South African Municipal Workers Union, the union representing the bargaining unit employees,” uShaka said on Facebook.

It added that employees are back at work and ready to welcome guests today.

The reopening of its various offerings will have a staggered approach as follows:

  • Village Walk Mall: Today
  • Dangerous Creatures: Today
  • Sea Animal Encounter Island: Today
  • Sea World: Today
  • Cargo Hold Restaurant: Monday
  • Wahooz Restaurant: Monday
  • Kids World: Wednesday
  • Wet n Wild: Wednesday

We wish to apologise for any inconvenience the closure of the park may have caused, and we thank all stakeholders for the patience and support shown to the organisation during this period, said uShaka.
