Video: 5 killed in crash near Belfast as mist causes major delays on N4
Five people have died in a collision near Belfast on the N4, with major delays being noted as traffic grinds to a halt.
Two separate serious collisions on the N4 near Belfast have claimed five lives and is causing major delays as traffic has been brought to a halt.
The Middelburg Observer reports the incidents happened near Berg-en-Dal, about 2km apart on the national route.
The highway is currently backed up, and traffic is at a standstill.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the crashes were due to heavy mist.
@middelburgobserver Five die in accident on the N4 near Belfast, earlier today(17 April 2025).
The provincial Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison said five people died in one of the collisions.
One crash involved a light delivery vehicle and a sports utility vehicle. Emergency services are on the scene.
Middelburg Observer has since obtained photos of the fatal collision, adding that the Belfast Forensics Pathology Department has arrived on the scene.

TRAC N4 Toll Route posted on X that the road between Berg-en-Dal Monument and Dalmanutha is closed due to a recovery in progress. It advised motorists to make use of alternative routes where possible.

In a separate post, it mentioned that ‘extremely busy conditions’ have been experienced along the N4, especially eastbound. “Please drive safely and keep a safe following distance,” it urged.
