VIDEO: Alleged hijacker beaten in Sandton
Video footage has been captured showing a man being beaten by community members in Sandton, Johannesburg after he allegedly attempted to steal a car this afternoon.
It is believed the suspect and two other men attempted to steal two cars from an office complex in Sandton, Sandton Chronicle reported.
“Two of these guys allegedly made off with the one vehicle, but as this guy was trying to steal the second car, a Run X, he was caught and beaten,” said an eyewitness.
In the video, the suspect is seen being beaten by a number of people, with one passerby getting visibly upset and throwing a brick at the man. Shortly afterwards, police are seen arriving at the scene. Police are yet to confirm the incident.

On Monday, a suspected hijacker was shot dead during a confrontation after trying to steal a bakkie in Mindalore, Krugersdorp, in Gauteng.
The bakkie belonged to an elderly man, who confronted the suspect when he heard the commotion outside. The suspect proceeded to shoot at the resident, inflicting wounds to his leg and side, said Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) spokesperson Frik van Zyl.
The elderly man retaliated with gunfire. The suspect was shot and killed.
