VIDEO: Filling station gunman to appear in court

A man accused of robbing a filling station in Centurion, south of Pretoria and raping a woman a week later will appear again in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said the 27-year-old man was denied bail at his previous appearance on 9 February where he was facing rape and robbery charges, Rekord Centurionreported.

This after video footage of the balaclava-clad man robbing a Shell filling station on the Old Johannesburg Road went viral.

CCTV footage shows the man entering the convenience store with a shotgun at around 20:40 and leaving it about 30 seconds later.

Johan Fourie, assistant manager at the filling station, said the man ordered the cashier to stop what he was doing and to move aside. He then casually opened the till and took about R2 000.

He later fled the scene in a blue vehicle, believed to have been a Ford Fiesta.

A week earlier, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the man near Olievenhoutbosch in Centurion.

The woman claimed he asked her for a place to sleep and she agreed.

“The woman told police the man entered her bedroom around 03:30 and raped her,” Huma said.

The woman reported the incident to police the following day, after which the man was arrested.
