VIDEO: Man arrested for discharging firearm at Doornpoort Tollgate
Sinoville police have arrested a man for discharging a firearm at the Doornpoort Tollgate.
This comes after a video was circulated on social media on 20 December 2020 in which an unknown man was seen firing several shots with a handgun.
Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said after the incident, a case docket was opened and allocated to warrant officers Riaan Booysen and Duppie du Pisani from the Sinoville detectives tracing team.
“After following several leads, the suspect was identified and traced,” Van Dyk said.
“On Tuesday, he was arrested with the assistance of Captain Ramahlaha.
“While conducting the investigation, a total of nine illegal firearms were found. Six firearms were found in a storage facility and a firearm and ammunition were found in his vehicle,” he said.
This was reportedly not the suspect’s first run-in with the law.
Two other firearms were found and handed in at Sinoville police station in regards to a previous incident, Van Dyk added.
The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests.
Van Dyk said the suspect (54) was charged for discharging of a firearm in a public area and the possession of illegal firearms.
Sinoville SAPS station commander Colonel Maria Roberts commended the officers for their hard work.
“They spent long hours away from their families to make sure they apprehend the suspect,” she said.
The man has yet to appear in court.
