VIDEO: Man drives car into lagoon after arguing with wife

Video footage has emerged showing a car plunged into a lagoon after the driver reportedly had an argument with his wife in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal yesterday.

In the video, the car is seen being pulled out of the lagoon as bystanders watch. Sweetwaters resident, Warren Sharp was driving along Kingsway at about 10.15am when he saw the vehicle plunge into the water, South Coast Sun reported.

“I dove into the water to pull the driver out. He was panicking, trying to get his door open. We managed to break the driver’s side window and I pulled him out,” added Sharp.

The VW Golf was completely submerged when police and rescue personnel arrived at the scene. The man was not injured, although he was in shock from his close escape.

Last month, a car smashed through a family’s  wall and plunged into their swimming pool, as they were preparing for an early bedtime in Richards Bay.

The two cars had reportedly been dicing in the narrow suburban streets of Arboretum. The loud crash also saw their neighbours pour from their houses in time to witness a second vehicle – an Audi – speed from the scene.

Police were soon on the scene and the sole young male occupant of the Hyundai Getz, who was uninjured, was accompanied to the Richards Bay Police Station.
