Video: Staff scrub scene where Wiandre Pretorius died in Brakpan

This morning, staff were seen cleaning the spot where Wiandre Pretorius died, as vehicles continued to come and go.

Staff were seen washing away blood at the scene where Wiandre Pretorius (41), implicated in proceedings before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, died after reportedly taking his own life.

Brakpan Herald reports that the incident took place at the Astron Energy petrol station along Hendrik Potgieter Road in Dalview just before 22:00 last night.

The Brakpan Herald visited the scene earlier this morning and observed that it was business as usual at the petrol station, with vehicles continuing to come and go.

A steady stream of motorists were refuelling as normal.

There was also a high media presence.

Although parts of the scene were cordoned off, curious onlookers could not help but glance towards the spot where the incident took place as they entered or exited the shop on the premises.

Earlier today, Brakpan Herald reported that Pretorius (41) was named in the testimony of Marius van der Merwe, who testified as Witness D during proceedings before the commission.

Pretorius was implicated in the murder of a man in Sallies Village in 2022.

Following his testimony at the commission, Van der Merwe was shot and killed outside his Brenthurst home in December.

On February 5, Pretorius survived an alleged attempt on his life outside his Van Dyk Park home in Boksburg.

As reported by the Brakpan Herald’s sister newspaper, the Boksburg Advertiser, according to police, he was about to enter his property when occupants of a Toyota Vitz opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.

His vehicle was struck 16 times, and he survived by taking cover beneath it. He was not seriously injured.

Police confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened in connection with his death.

“All role players including police detectives and forensic experts attended to the crime scene,” said Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, national SAPS spokesperson.

“This matter is under investigation.”

Pretorius reportedly shot himself in front of his partner.
