Wanted rapist shot dead by off-duty policeman

An off-duty police officer allegedly shot dead a wanted rapist, after the suspect broke into his home in Cato Crest, near Durban.

An off-duty police officer allegedly shot dead a wanted rapist, after the suspect broke into his home in Cato Crest, near Durban.

Constable Jabulisa Mgwaba was reportedly at his house when he heard a sound coming from his bathroom, Rising Sun Overportreported.

When Mgwaba went to investigate, he found an unknown man who had entered the premises.

According to Mgwaba, he had asked the suspect what he wanted, after which the suspect fired three shots at him.

Mgwaba then fired back at the suspect, hitting him in the chest.

The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Sabelo Madonsela, died at the scene.

Madonsela had been found with a bag which contained condoms and a screw driver.

Cato Manor police positively linked Madonsela to other rape and robbery cases in the area.

In a similar incident, police shot and killed a suspected serial rapist in Mankweng, Limpopo earlier this year.

Police had reportedly surrounded Frans Kwetepe Thosago at an abandoned house when he fired shots at them prompting a shoot-out which left him fatally wounded.”

According to police, Thosago was linked to over 10 cases of rape.
