Watch: 812 successor slides around Fiorano for testing mileage

It’s a bit odd hearing V12 induction and exhaust noises emanate from a Roma-bodied Ferrari, but the 812 successor has to get its testing mileage in somehow. Watch all of the sonorous Italian goodness here!

Ferrari has stolen the limelight over the past month with the introduction of the Purosangue ‘SUV’. Now, the purists who were distraught at the sight of a raised Prancing Horse can marvel at yet another V12-powered model in the age of downsizing and electrification. This time around, it is closer to what Ferrari are accustomed to; grand tourers.

It may only be a spy video provided by Varryx on YouTube, but the Roma-bodied model has the unmistakable induction and exhaust sound of a V12-powered Ferrari. The sonorous, high-displacement engine lives on for another generation! Something all petrolheads should rejoice at amidst supercar makers opting for high-output, hybrid-assisted models.

This is still something that Ferrari is planning on, with 15 new models anticipated by 2026 including a replacement for the mild-hybrid LaFerrari and an EV expected within the next 3 years. That being said, the sound of a new V12 has never demanded as much exaltation as ever before.

It may look like the V8-powered Roma, but those with a keen eye will be able to distinguish a longer bonnet and widened arches over the current GT Prancing Horse. The elongated front silhouette is logically to ensure the massive 6,5-litre V12, which we assume is powering the model, can fit comfortably within the confines of the engine bay.

The 812 successor is rumoured to put out even more power than the 610 kW Competizione model which could make it the most powerful naturally aspirated Ferrari ever produced – again, not something you hear with frequent news dominated by downsizing and turbochargers.

It will still be a while until the 812 successor will eventually be revealed to us since the Roma body implies the model doesn’t have its own skin yet. No official dates are confirmed but based on automotive industry norms, the reveal will likely take place by the end of next year or early 2024.
