Watch: Dog saved after days under heavy container in Secunda

A dog trapped under a heavy container for days was rescued in a joint effort by multiple organisations using the Jaws of Life.

A dog trapped under a container for several days was successfully rescued today through the efforts of multiple organisations and emergency personnel in Secunda.

Ridge Times reports that the National SPCA called in Marius van Reeuwyk of the South African Animal Welfare Inspectorate Association and Captain Heintjie Alberts from the Secunda Police K9 Unit.

They teamed up with the Evander Police, Govan Mbeki Fire Brigade, Jelani Security, and Khulula Animal Welfare Society (KHAWS) to lift the heavy container and free the distressed animal.

Due to the container’s weight and positioning, the team had to use the Jaws of Life to carefully lift it and reach the trapped dog.

“We suspect she had been trapped there since Friday or Saturday afternoon because the business was closed over the weekend,” said Van Reeuwyk.

After two hours of intense efforts, the dog was finally freed and taken to a veterinarian for a check-up. She is now safe in the care of KHAWS, who are actively searching for her rightful owner.

Anyone with information about the owner is urged to contact KHAWS at 069 999 3371.
