Three separate incidents, of which two were fires, have been reported at different camps in the Kruger National Park over the past two days.

According to a social media post by South African National Parks (SANParks), the first incident occurred on Sunday night when a section of the Nyathi Guest House, which was earmarked for renovation, collapsed at Skukuza Rest Camp.

“A piece of concrete slab collapsed. Fortunately, no one was injured. The incident is being investigated, and the guest house will be removed from the inventory until after planned renovations. The guests staying there have been moved to alternative accommodation for the duration of their stay,” read the statement.

In a separate incident, Lowvelder reports that a bungalow at Skukuza recently caught fire due to an unattended braai. The fire was extinguished with minimal damage to the structure and personal belongings. No injuries were reported.

SANParks later confirmed that this incident occurred at Satara Rest Camp.

Shortly after the Satara fire, another fire incident was reported at Olifants Rest Camp, where three units caught fire.

“Ranger services from Satara, Olifants, and reinforcements from other ranger posts are busy assisting to put out the fires. An update will follow,” a Facebook post from 11 hours ago stated.

It is unclear whether the blaze at Olifants has been extinguished.

SANParks appealed to guests to take extra precautions and avoid leaving fires unattended, especially with the ongoing heatwave and windy conditions.
