Watch: Joburg man rescued after spending 2 days in stormwater drain

A man was handed over to the police after he was found trapped in a stormwater drain in Winchester Hills.

A man was safely rescued from a stormwater drain on Maluti Street in Winchester Hills on May 20, after being trapped inside for about two days, reports Comaro Chronicle.

Fidelity ADT and Mondeor CPF Sector 2 members responded to the incident and, with the assistance of a resident and SAPS members, managed to extract the individual from the drain.

The man was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence.

Following the rescue, he was handed over to SAPS for further investigation, and he received medical attention to assess his health and well-being.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the potential misuse of stormwater systems. “The CPF finds this incident deeply concerning, as it substantiates long-held concerns that stormwater drains may be used as access routes and hiding places by criminals,” said Shane Thavar, The Mondeor CPF Sector 2 chairperson.
