Watch: Kempton Park waste management company destroyed in fire
A chemical storage facility in an industrial suburban area caught fire late last night, and resulted in structural damage.
A large waste management company was destroyed in a fire that sent massive smoke plumes over Spartan, Kempton Park, last night.
The fire broke out at Oricol Environmental Services chemical storage, at 16 Vuurslag Road, at 23:40.
“At around 23:40, the firefighters responded to a structural fire,” says City of Ekurhuleni Disasters and Emergency Management Services spokesperson Eric Maloka.
“The firefighters were able to contain the fire with the addition of resources that were sent to the scene to help fully extinguish the blaze and assist with the investigation.
“The firefighters worked throughout the morning and they are still on site doing what they call dumping down.”

Maloka says the factory is badly damaged and the roof has collapsed. He adds that the Drizit Environmental team was also on site.
The cause of the fire is unknown and will be the subject of further investigations.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
