WATCH: Pinetown taxi protest causes chaos on roads

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes and avoid Josiah Gumede Road.

Traffic has been affected in Pinetown as taxi drivers have blocked the corner of Josiah Gumede (Old Main Road) and Anderson Road, Highway Mail reports.

According to reports, the taxi drivers and owners are protesting against Metro Police law enforcement.

One of the taxi drivers said the arrest of some taxi owners in the Durban region sparked the protest.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said another grievance is the amount of tickets issued to taxi drivers and owners.

“They are also complaining about the state of the taxi ranks around Pinetown,” said Manqele.
