Watch: Roodepoort boy sets new maths world record

The young boy competed against thousands of learners worldwide and solved more than 1 200 questions in 20 minutes.

A Grade 5 learner from Pinnacle College Ridge View has been hailed ‘a maths prodigy’ after achieving top honours on the global stage, reports Roodepoord Record.

Kairav Chetty who previously placed first in South Africa, ranked number one in the world in this year’s World Maths Day competition, where he competed against more than 30 000 learners.

He delivered an outstanding performance, solving 1 245 questions in just 20 minutes with impressive speed and accuracy said the school’s head of marketing and admissions, Joanita Boshoff.

“We are immensely proud of Kairav’s exceptional achievements and look forward to seeing his continued success,” Boshoff said.

Kairav’s strong performance is not new. He has placed first in South Africa for three consecutive years, which is a rare achievement. Additionally, he also set a new Mathletics World Record by solving 143 questions in one minute, beating the previous record of 141.

According to Mathletics’ website (mathletics.com), its platform is the world’s leading online maths program.

The school community celebrates Kairav as he continues to excel beyond the bar in the field of mathematics.
