WATCH: School in Limpopo closed after ‘strange’ behaviour by learners

WARNING: VIDEO MIGHT UPSET SOME VIEWERS. The school governing body and representatives of the Department of Education will work towards a solution to allow teaching and learning to resume.

Makgofe Secondary School in Polokwane has been temporarily closed after learners showed ‘strange’ behaviour.

The incident was confirmed by departmental spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene after a video has been circulating on social media platforms where learners can be seen passed out on the school’s premises.

Chuene told Polokwane Review the school reported that 40 learners from various grades displayed “strange behaviour”.

“The school reported that the learners’ behaviour did not resemble any physical illness. We still don’t know exactly what the reason behind their fainting is or what caused it. We are very concerned, however, we want to avoid speculating on the cause at the moment,” she said.

Chuene said the school governing body and representatives of the department are looking into the matter.

“Learners were sent home early yesterday and lessons are currently suspended. The SGB and department representatives will work towards a solution to allow teaching and learning to resume, while the department will also bring psychosocial experts on board,” she explained.
