WATCH: Suspects linked to shooting of a JMPD officer arrested for hijacking

"The suspects are linked to other crimes including the shooting of a JMPD officer in 2019," says Wayne Minnaar, JMPD spokesperson.

On Monday September 21, JMPD Undercover (IIOC) Unit received information of a grey BMW which was being hijacked on corner Prerie Street and Verona Street Rosettenvile, Comaro Chronicle reports.

“While officers were on their way there, they heard that there were four suspects, and they were changing number plates of the get away car, which was a grey Mercedes Benz that was also hijacked in Sandringham in June this year,” said Wayne Minnaar, JMPD spokesperson.

Officers in unmarked cars followed the suspects to a complex on South Hills, there officers received backup from the SAPS and one suspect fled from the Mercedes and he was chased on foot by other officers.

This suspect was apprehended and searched, he had an unlicensed firearm on him.

The three suspects who were still in the Mercedes Benz were also arrested, upon searching the vehicle, one AK47 automatic rifle was found, two rifle magazines and two hand gun loaded magazines were also found .

“The suspects are linked to other crimes including the shooting of a JMPD officer in 2019,” he said.
