A Wentworth teen was arrested after being found with an unlicensed firearm days after a mass shooting, though police have not linked the incidents.
Police arrested a teen at the Woodville Road flats in Wentworth, KZN, on Monday. According to Southlands Sun, the 18-year-old boy was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Arrest followed mass shooting
The suspect was arrested two days after a mass shooting that left two people dead and seven injured in Wentworth.
Wentworth police spokesperson Captain Mbuso Gumede says members of the visible policing B Relief team received information about a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
“The members immediately proceeded to the flat as directed. Upon tactfully entering, they arrested the suspect, who was found with a black Z88 9mm pistol with the serial number erased. A total of 14 live ammunition were also seized. The suspect was transported to Wentworth Police Station where he was formally charged with possession of [an] unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” adds Gumede.
Gumede says the confiscated firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the commission of any other crime.
Court appearance expected
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
The station commander, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali, commends the officers who acted swiftly upon receiving the information.
“Well done to our members for their swift action in seizing a firearm and apprehending the suspect. These firearms pose serious threat often being used to commit violent crimes and endanger innocent lives in our communities,” says Mtshali.
